Even as the wealth gaps between whites, blacks and Hispanics were rising to record levels during the Great Recession, America’s largest minority groups were moving ahead of whites in their ratings of the national economy, according to Pew Research surveys. In 2005, 35% of whites and 22% of non-whites rated the US economy excellent or good. By 2011, only 12% of non-whites rated the US economy excellent or good, but this was still 50% higher than the 8% excellent/good rating from whites.
