From the official “end” of the recession in June 2009 through May 2011, men gained 768,000 jobs and lowered their unemployment rate from 10.6% to 9.5%, according to Pew Research Center analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Meanwhile, in that same time period women lost 218,000 jobs and their unemployment rate climbed from 8.3% to 8.5%.
